Optimum Nutrition

Optimum Nutrition is an American sports nutrition brand, best known for Gold Standard 100% Whey, which has been among the highest-selling protein powders in the world for most of three decades. Mega Health stocks 18 lines across four products. The range is narrow and deep rather than wide, so the decision is usually size and flavour rather than which product.

Gold Standard 100% Whey — the size question

Nine of the eighteen lines are this one powder. It comes in two flavours, Double Rich Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, and the sizes are quoted in pounds, which is worth translating before you compare:

  • 454g — about 1lb, roughly 14 serves. Both flavours. The size to buy if you have not had it before.
  • 2lb — about 907g, roughly 29 serves. Vanilla Ice Cream only.
  • 5lb — about 2.27kg, roughly 71 serves. Both flavours. The size most people settle on.
  • 10lb — about 4.54kg, roughly 145 serves. Both flavours, and the lowest cost per serve in the range by a clear margin.

The formula is the same in every size. Price per serve is the only thing that changes, so if you already know you like the flavour, the larger tubs are straightforwardly better value.

Gold Standard Pre-Workout

Four flavours, all in 30-serve tubs: Fruit Punch, Blueberry Lemonade, Green Apple and Watermelon. Same formula across all four — the only difference is flavour.

Amino Energy

Six flavours in 270g tubs: Blue Raspberry, Fruit Fusion, Electric Tangerine, Juicy Strawberry, Orange and Green Apple. A lighter powder than the pre-workout, mixed with water and sipped rather than taken as a single pre-training dose.

Micronised Creatine Powder

One line, unflavoured creatine monohydrate in micronised form, which means the particle size has been reduced so it suspends more readily in water. If you are comparing creatine across brands, our creatine collection puts this one beside the other monohydrate powders we stock.

What we don't stock

Optimum Nutrition's wider catalogue includes casein, mass gainers, bars and ready-to-drink shakes. We have not brought those in. If you are after one specifically, ask and we will tell you whether we can get it rather than leave you guessing.

Buying from Mega Health

We're an independent South Australian health retailer with stores at Hallett Cove and Victor Harbor, stocking sports nutrition alongside natural health ranges. Shipped Australia-wide.
